Carpet

Carpets are made of a combination of natural and synthetic fibres, and can often be recycled. Carpets by their nature are often large and difficult to carry. Even worse, once they get left outside for any period of time they soak up rain water making them smelly and even less attractive to have in your car.

Carpet Tiles

Many carpet tiles have a sturdy bitumen backing, so if they can be lifted they can often be reused. Carpet tiles are also very hardwearing, and often last longer than they are required. Where they are no longer required, the bitumen can be separated to use in roads, and the fibres used in new products.

Vinyl

Vinyl cannot normally be recycled. As it sometimes contains PVC (polyvinyl chloride) it may also be classified as hazardous waste. This means that it nearly always ends up in landfill

Underlay

Underlay is usually made from synthetic foams. The options for disposal are limited but there is thriving market for reuse, especially where the underlay is focussed on insulation rather than softness.
